With the Easter month about to come to a close, one of the biggest working holidays are over, and so we look forward to summer, perhaps wondering when the next Red Days in Spain might be. The good news is we don´t have to wait long, as the short answer is Monday.
Each municipality in Spain has a total of 14 public holidays distributed throughout a year. You need to check with your local Social Security office or town hall for your local holidays specific to your municipality, but we do know when the next national holiday will be, 1 May.
In some territories they will have a few holidays throughout the month of May. Where they will benefit from both national and regional holidays. In certain places they will even have a bridge of up to four days if they hook it up with the weekend.
Monday 1 May 2023 is when Labour Day takes place in Spain, which is a national holiday celebrated on this day every year. All regions contemplate it in their calendar as such.
Therefore, we will find ourselves with a long weekend of three days or even longer in some places, such as Madrid, who will extend the festivity one more day when the Community Day is celebrated on May 2. But there are other Spanish regions that will also have parties throughout that month.
This is the case of Galicia, which on the 17th will celebrate the Day of Galician Letters. Two other communities will dress up during the last days of the month. This is the case of the Canary Islands, on May 30, for Canary Islands Day; and Castilla-La Mancha, on May 31, also for community day.
What national holidays are still to enjoy?
In Spain, after May 1, the next national holiday will be Tuesday August 15, celebrating the Assumption of the Virgin. Once the summer period is over, the next date marked in red on the calendar will be Thursday, October 12, with the National Holiday.
On Wednesday, November 1, it will be the turn of All Saints, while in December there will be a few days off. On the 6th, the Day of the Spanish Constitution takes place, while on December 8, the Immaculate Conception. This year they fall on Wednesday and Friday, respectively.
Finally, on Monday, December 25, Christmas Day is celebrated throughout the country.
