The president of the Orense Provincial Council and the Partido Popular in the province, Manuel Baltar, will go to testify next Tuesday, May 9, at the Puebla de Sanabria (Zamora) court after being caught driving an official car 215 kilometres per hour on the A-52.
Baltar received the judicial summons to testify and has been notified by the Guardia Civil of the opening of investigation proceedings for possible crimes against road safety.
In addition, the same sources confirm that on May 4, starting at 10:00 a.m., the provincial institution will hold an extraordinary plenary session at the request of the PSdeG-PSOE.
The Socialists consider that the explanations offered in the ordinary session were “insufficient”. During the debate, Baltar responded to questions from PSOE and BNG about the fine they imposed on him –already paid– and the criminal proceedings opened for this crime.
He assured that “no” he is going to resign as president because — he said — it was an “isolated” event, although he recognised two other fines in recent years and that the official car of the provincial entity accumulates ten sanctions in the last period. Baltar insisted that “it was an isolated error” that was due to “an oversight” in “a long straight without references.”
The offence could be punished with a prison sentence.
