The number of people registered in the offices of the State Public Employment Service (SEPE), at the end of April, has decreased by 73,890 people (-2.58%) in relation to the previous month.
Compared to April 2022, year-on-year unemployment has fallen by 234,133 people (-7.75%).
Registered unemployment stood at 2,788,370, below 2.8 million for the first time in April since 2008, a figure that brings us back to the boom scenario prior to the financial crisis, with the lowest unemployment records from the historical series.
In seasonally adjusted terms, registered unemployment fell by 2,646 people.
Unemployment by sectors
By economic sector compared to March, registered unemployment fell in all sectors.
In the Services sector 52,216 (-2.56%), Industry 5,391 (-2.36%), Agriculture 4,296 (-3.79%) and Construction 4,014 (-1.84%).
Among the group Without Previous Employment it also decreased by 7,973 people (-3.05%).
Unemployment by sex and age
Unemployment fell by 38,756 women (-2.26%) and stood at 1,679,567, marking a minimum since 2008.
Male unemployment stands at 1,108,803, falling by 35,134 (-3.07%) compared to the month of March.
Unemployment among young people under 25 years of age fell by 19,848 people in April (-9.23%) compared to the previous month, a rate of decline that triples the -2.6% of general unemployment.
Unemployment by autonomous communities
Registered unemployment in April 2023 decreased in the 17 Autonomous Communities.
The most pronounced falls in absolute figures occurred in Andalusia (-20,551), Catalonia (-9,506) and Castilla-La Mancha (-6,645).
Hiring
The total number of contracts registered during the month of April was 1,157,316.
In April 2023, 530,537 permanent employment contracts were registered, representing 45.84% of all contracts.
In the accumulated of the year, 2,169,717 contracts have been formalised for an indefinite period until April 2023, 45.6% of the total for the first four months of the year.
The temporary contracts registered in the month of April 2023 have been 626,779.
They are 124,668 (-16.59%) less than the same month of the previous year. In cumulative terms, in the first four months, 2,588,245 temporary contracts have been registered, which represents a decrease of 1,806,242 (-41.10%) over the same period in 2022.
Benefits in March
The total number of existing beneficiaries at the end of March was 1,787,538.
The coverage of the unemployment protection system during the month of March was 66.61%, the same indicator in March 2022 was 59.80%, which represents an increase of 11.4% and its maximum value in one of each.
It should be remembered that the amount of the benefit has also been increased by increasing the calculation base from 50% to 60% of the regulatory base after reversing the cut made in said amount in 2012.
Total expenses for March 2023 amounted to 1,9 billion euro, similar to those of the same month of the previous year.
