The president of the Spanish Committee of representatives of Persons with Disabilities (Cermi), Luis Cayo Pérez, expressed his “satisfaction” with the announcement of the prompt approval of the Royal Decree that will make flexible and update the conditions in which workers with disabilities equal or over 45% can access early retirement.

In an interview at the weekend, the Minister of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, José Luis Escrivá, assured that he hopes to “take it to the next Council of Ministers”, which will be held today, Tuesday.

In a statement, Pérez welcomed the measure announced by the ministry since “it includes a large part of the demands of the disability sector.”

“We hope that it will be approved this Tuesday and that it will enter into force imminently,” he stated, since “it contains a series of advantages that will allow more people with disabilities to take advantage of this modality” of retirement.

Firstly, it lowers the contribution period required from the diagnosis of disability from 15 to 5 years in order to request early retirement at age 56.

It also allows you to accumulate different disabilities in order to reach the 45% threshold, which was not the case until now. Likewise, Pérez stressed that these disabilities can be accredited even if the person does not have the official certificate, as long as they can present medical or similar reports that prove it.

Another important point in his opinion has to do with the list of diseases that could lead to a shortening of life expectancy, which is the reason for this type of early retirement.

“This list continues to exist, but it is no longer a Decree,” explained the president of Cermi, but “new pathologies can be included based on advances in medicine and science.”

For all these reasons, Pérez welcomed this announcement, which “is the result of negotiations in the disability sector” with the National Social Security Institute.
