The former director of the Valencian Institute for Conservation, Restoration and Research (Ivacor), along with a department head of this same institution, are facing 5 years in prison for restoring ten old books commissioned by an individual and billing this service through a private company.
The evidence will begin to be presented from today, Tuesday, at the Provincial Court of Valencia after the investigation into the events that occurred between 2011 and 2012, showed that the owner of the copies delivered the books, ancient manuscripts from the owner’s private collection and of considerable value for restoration.
It is alleged that the defendants evaded the administrative and contractual procedure for minor contracts with the intention of favouring the client, so the books were restored at Ivacor with tools and means from the same. The Prosecutor’s Office calculates that the economic damage caused to the public Institute by these events was 12,630 euro and will request 5 years in prison for each of the defendants in the trial.
