The Provincial Court of Madrid will try a man from today, Tuesday, for allegedly insulting two users of a gym in Madrid due to their sexual orientation, an individual whom the Prosecutor’s Office asks to punish with 23 months in prison.
The Public Ministry accuses him of a crime against dignity and another minor injury and, as civil liability, claims 1,000 euro for each of the victims for moral damages, since they felt “humiliated and offended by being gratuitously harassed”.
According to the prosecutor’s account, the events occurred in a gym on calle Atocha in Madrid, where since 2019 the defendant had come across two men whom he insulted “with obvious contempt for their sexual orientation.”
In May 2021, he ran into one of them, insulted him again and pushed him. He did not injure him, but, according to the Prosecutor’s Office, he did make him feel “powerless and humiliated.”
In these circumstances, the insulted man ended up hitting the other and causing him several minor bruises, for which the Prosecutor’s Office also accuses him of a minor crime of injury.
