Between today, Monday, and Thursday, Madrid’s public universities will receive an avalanche of nervous young people who will be taking what could be the most important next step on their academic journey, the university entrance exam.
The universities are expecting some 38,000 students to take the exam this year, and so, to ensure those eager young people don’t get caught up with the usual hustle and bustle, the regional government has enabled a reinforcement device for public transport, so there will be more Metro trains and more buses to make it easier to get to the campus.
It is planned to expand all the Metro, Light Rail, EMT and intercity bus services that connect with the six public universities in the region. In addition, the mobility management centre will monitor security in the interchanges that have the most influx of travellers.
The reinforcement will be carried out both in frequencies and in number of vehicles, and will be especially noticeable at the start and end times of the exams. There will be an increase in connections with the Complutense University (both on the Moncloa and Somosaguas campuses), with the Autónoma (Cantoblanco campus), Alcalá de Henares, Carlos III (on its Leganés and Colmenarejo campuses), Polytechnic (Moncloa) and Rey Juan Carlos (at its Móstoles and Fuenlabrada campuses).
An influx of around 38,200 students is expected from Monday to Thursday, the days of the tests, at all these universities. The reinforcement will affect the 3 Metro lines that link to the campus (6 and 12), the ML2 Light Metro, 13 EMT buses and 42 intercity lines.
