Trial

The trial will begin today, Wednesday, against two minors who are accused of kidnapping and murdering another child, named Mohamed Ali.

The two minors will appear in the juvenile court, since both were under 18 years of age at the time the events occurred, facing sentences of 7 and 8 years in prison. A third individual, legally an adult, will be tried separately.

The events occurred on January 13, 2022, when Mohamed Ali left his home, never to return. Hours later, his mother filed a complaint with the Police. Immediately, a search operation started, including citizen participation, as his mother insisted that it was impossible for him to have left without warning.

A little over a year later, three people were arrested – an adult and two minors at the time of the events – as alleged perpetrators of a crime of kidnapping and murder. Days later, and after several days of searching by the National Police, the mortal remains of the young man were found.

The motive for the events appears to be a supposedly compromising video that the deceased young man had in his possession. According to the summary, Mohamed Ali agreed to meet with the other three in the vehicle of one of them. When he realised how delicate his situation was, he tried to flee in vain: they hit him on the head with a baseball bat and, after certifying his death, they buried him in an area near La Ponderosa. They even came to consider the option of burning the corpse so as not to leave a trace.

The driver of the vehicle, the only adult at the time of the facts, will be tried as an adult at another time.
