The Provincial Court of Madrid will hear evidence from today, Tuesday, against a young man accused of attempted murder for allegedly hitting his mother “repeatedly” on the head with a crutch in the house where they lived in Madrid, for which the Prosecutor requests four and a half years in prison.
The defendant, who suffers from a paranoid schizophrenia disorder, will sit on the bench of section 23 of the Madrid Court accused of attempted murder and another of resisting law enforcement officers, according to the Prosecutor’s Office from Madrid.
According to the file from the public ministry, the attack occurred on February 10, 2022, and the woman, who tried to protect herself with her arms, suffered multiple injuries that required medical and surgical treatment, for which she spent 20 days in the hospital and that took more than two months to heal.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office, at the time of the events the defendant, who was then 23 years old and has been remanded in custody since March 2022, had his intellectual and volitional faculties seriously altered.
After the assault, the file continues, the defendant left the family home with a knife in his hand that was seized by the Police.
At that moment, when the agents asked him to stop his attitude before being arrested, the accused, “with the intention of undermining his physical integrity and with clear contempt for the principle of authority” began to struggle with one of them, who was subsequently injured.
