The 9H Palma Twin Otter seaplane, belonging to the airline Isla Air Express, has recently carried out its first test flight, after certifying the operability of its systems and equipment. This project brings passenger transport for the aircraft one step closer, and when completed, the destination of the flights will be connecting the Balearic Islands by seaplanes.
Isla Air Express, the airline that transports passengers with seaplanes in the Balearic Islands, aims to operate direct flights between the different islands of the Balearic archipelago, beginning the operation with a Palma-Ibiza route, and also with the Peninsula, with a route between Palma and Barcelona.
Isla Air will operate DHC6-300 “TWIN OTTER” aircraft, a very popular model among seaplane operators that transport passengers in countries such as the United States, Canada, the Maldives… It is a model that, over the years, has It has demonstrated maximum efficiency, reliability and manoeuvrability to operate in confined areas and with maximum environmental protection.
Last week, the company carried out these test flights on the hydro surface of the Berre Lagoon (France), in the vicinity of the Marseille Airport, with its DHC6-300 TWIN OTTER aircraft. The aircraft, with registration 9H-PALMA, has followed a complete maintenance program in recent months at the Marseille airport, and therefore had to undergo maintenance verification flights in order to verify that all the systems, components and equipment were operating properly.
After verifying the correct behaviour of the aircraft at take-off, the stall warning systems were checked for their correct calibration, as well as electromagnetic interference checks of the Electronic Flight Bag.
Two complete take-off and landing operations were carried out, which allowed them to verify the excellent reliability and manageability of the aircraft. The operation was carried out in close coordination with the Marseille airport control tower (MRS).
Once these verifications have been successfully carried out, Isla Air Express faces with great optimism the next performance of its demonstration flights in the Balearic Islands, specifically in the Port of Palma de Mallorca and in Ibiza in close coordination with the Port Authority of Balearic Islands, air control centres and other administrations involved.
