Although mobility has entered into the political sphere in the run up to the elections, with the Director General of Traffic, Pere Navarro, declaring that Spain will once again introduce tolls next year, a matter subsequently denied by the current government, and the Partido Popular, should they enter into power, green matters have not become forefront during this campaign, and yet, both go hand in hand, which can be clearly demonstrated by highlighting the vehicles chosen by the political heads of the four main parties, the result being that only one of them is in fact “green”.
According to AutoScout24, Sumauto’s specialist used vehicle portal, the only one of the political heads who is demonstrating green credentials is in fact Alberto Núñez Feijóo, of the PP, who travels in a plug-in hybrid, while the rest continues to use traditional combustion engine cars.
Specifically, the leader of the PP usually moves with an electrified car, a 46,000-euro DS 9 plug-in hybrid with a Zero environmental label from the DGT. Which also means that he would be the only one of the four politicians who could drive through the Low Emission Zones in towns and cities.
As for the current President of the Government, and PSOE candidate to revalidate the position, Pedro Sánchez, he uses an Audi A8 L with a W12 engine on his daily trips. This is the official car, and it belongs to the State fleet, the same vehicle that the previous president, Mariano Rajoy, which was also pre-used. We will have to wait and see if Feijóo maintains the use of this vehicle IF he is elected at the weekend, as the equivalent electrified model of Pedro Sánchez’s A8 L would be the purely electric Audi e-tron GT, a vehicle that in the used car market has a starting price of 87,000 euro.
As Pedro Sánchez did at the time in the previous general elections, in which he toured Spain with that Peugeot 407 to announce the details and the electoral program of the PSOE, Yolanda Díaz, the candidate of the Sumar party, is also driving around various places in the country in her own vehicle, in this case, a 2014 Volkswagen Golf with a combustion engine, whose equivalent electrified version would be the e-Golf model. According to data from AutoScout24, e-Golf in the used car market is available at a starting price of 17,500 euro.
Finally, and regarding the Vox candidate, Santiago Abasca, if ever a car fits a character more, he usually drives is a Jeep Commander, a vehicle with an off-road body registered in 2015, although with an earlier manufacturing date. In this regard, the electrified model equivalent to the vehicle that the Vox leader actually drives would be the electric Jeep Avenger BEV, available in the used car market from around 36,300 euro.
