Despite a little respite at times over the weekend, temperatures have started to creep up again, so much so there are warnings of a third heatwave starting in the early part of this week.
According to Rubén del Campo forecaster and spokesperson for the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), it is “probable” that from Monday or Tuesday “we are facing the third heat wave of the summer”, after the two recorded in July, and that this will last for a good part of the week.
This warm episode will be due, fundamentally, to the arrival of a mass of warm air from North Africa together with a stabilisation of the weather caused by a ridge (zone of high pressure associated with warm air) that will cover the entire national geography.
“They will be very, very hot days, in which daytime values will be between 5 and 10 degrees above normal in most of the country “, except on the shores of the Mediterranean, warned Del Campo, who stressed that in points from the north will even exceed the usual levels by 15 degrees.
According to Del Campo, although there is some uncertainty, Tuesday and Wednesday temperatures will exceed 35 degrees in a general way and 38 to 40 degrees in a large part not only in the centre and south of the Peninsula, but also in the north. In some areas of the southern half, 42 to 44 degrees could be reached or occasionally exceeded.
