The Third Section of the Provincial Court of Alicante has sentenced a man who worked as an accountant in a pharmacy in Alcoi to three years and five months in prison for the crime of aggravated fraud, where he appropriated 159,145 euro to the detriment of the owner. The ruling also imposes the payment of a fine of 2,400 euro and requires him to compensate the injured party with the amount defrauded.

As stated in the ruling, the events occurred between 2010 and 2015, when the accountant, who had gained the trust of the new owner of the pharmacy and was in charge of reviewing orders and paying the invoices of the commerce, provided the establishment’s main medication supplier by telephone with a bank account number that he owned.

The accused pretended to the person in charge of the supplying company that he had authorisation from the pharmacy to deposit the money from the discounts and bonuses with which the distributor benefited its clients into that new account based on the drug purchases they made.

In this way, the accountant managed to divert, through periodic transfers, a total of 129,100 euro to his own assets. At the same time, in December 2011, he drafted a transfer order for an amount greater than 30,000 euro to pay a pharmacy bill that had already been paid previously, which he assigned to his personal bank account. The sentence is not final and can be appealed.
