Movistar price hike from January

Movistar has begun to notify its customers that it will raise the prices of its main fibre and mobile rates by up to three euro per month starting from January 15, 2024.

The Telefónica group operator, Telefónica having recently announced massive job cuts, thus repeats its strategy from last year, although the rate increase will be less pronounced than the 6.8% approved during 2022, remaining at 3.1%.

The bulk of mobile and fibre optic rates will rise by two euro per month on average, while other services such as the new Movistar Plus+ television plan will be more expensive, the miMovistar Max rate, for example, which includes fibre optics and a mobile phone, will go from 57.90 euros to 59.90 euro.

Telefónica has clarified that all customers who have a promotional price will keep it until the end of the offer, while keeping the mobile-only rates intact.

With this announcement, Movistar joins Vodafone in communicating new rate increases to its customers for 2024, rising 4.38%, equivalent to the October CPI, used as a reference.

With this type of increases, operators protect themselves against inflation, while deepening the rupture between the premium market that is managing to pass prices on to the consumer and the more low-cost oriented segment, which is preparing for a new trade war with the arrival of Zegona as the new owner of Vodafone Spain.
