Adempted murderer who also attacked baby on trial

The Courts in Alicante will begin to hear evidence from today, Wednesday, against a man accused of trying to kill his former romantic partner and attacking their son, who was 13 months old at the time of the events.

There was a court order in place prohibiting approach and communication, but that didn’t stop the man in the incident that occurred in May in the woman’s home, in the capital of Alicante.

The Prosecutor’s Office initially requests a prison sentence of 10 years and eight months for the accused for the crimes of threats, breach of measures, abuse in the family, in relation to the minor, and attempted murder, in relation to the woman, as reported by the Superior Court of Justice of the Community (TSJCV).

The defendant and the victim were a couple for a month in 2019, although, after the relationship ended, they continued seeing each other.

In August 2022, a Court in Elda (Alicante) agreed to prohibit the defendant from approaching and communicating with the victims.

Despite this order, the Public Ministry maintains that, in April 2023, the man called the woman on the phone, insulted her and threatened to kill her.

Around 6:15 a.m. on May 2, he entered the victim’s home in Alicante by deception, grabbed her by the hair, punched and kicked her in the head and body, and hit her with different objects such as a lamp, and a hair straightener.

At one point during the attack, the victim tried to call for help over the phone and the man tried to choke her with a lamp cord.

The woman, who lost consciousness on several occasions, tried to protect the minor, who was also attacked by the defendant, and request help, until at 8:00 in the morning, she managed to go out to the balcony to alert the neighbours, who called the National Police.
