Families who reported the alleged attacks by a teacher at a school in Vélez-Blanco in Almeria will testify before the judge this Thursday, as part of the ongoing investigation process initiated after complaints filed by several parents against a teacher of their children (between 8 and 9 years old) at the CEIP Castillos de Los Velez School.

As planned, this Thursday the statements of the parents of the children will be taken, as well as other testimonies agreed upon by the judge investigating the case. During the judicial process, alleged harassment and mistreatment of various minors by the same teacher at that centre is being investigated.

The minors and their families will be assisted in this appearance by lawyer Miguel Toledo from the Landof Legal firm, who is working with the parents “in order to clarify possible responsibilities and provide the psychological support that the minors need,” according to the firm itself.

The last publicly known judicial decision following the complaints took place last November 2023, when the head of the Court of First Instance and Single Instruction of Vélez-Rubio ordered that the teacher of the CEIP Castillo de los Vélez, of Vélez-Blanco, accused of allegedly mistreating and even injuring some of his students, was “suspended from his teaching work” while these events are investigated.

Sources from the Superior Court of Justice of Andalusia (TSJA) then indicated that, among the precautionary measures imposed by the judge after the statement of the teacher, who received nine complaints for the events under investigation, he was also prohibited from approaching and communicating with the schoolchildren while being investigated for a crime of “mistreatment and injuries to minors.”

The judge then also issued provisional release with measures for the teacher after having taken his statement once he was brought to judicial custody by the Guardia Civil, which carried out his arrest one day after the families filed complaints upon detecting alleged inappropriate behaviour towards the students, between eight and nine years old, which included physical injury, allegedly.
