The Second Section of the Provincial Court of the Balearic Islands holds the trial today against a diving instructor, accused of raping a young woman on a boat excursion in Cabrera. The Public Ministry asks for ten years in prison for him.
According to the indictment, the events occurred in July 2020, when the victim and his family went on a boat excursion, contracted with the company dedicated to diving activities where the defendant worked.
The injured party, her sister and her father participated in the excursion, who had a relationship of trust with the defendant due to having made other dives in previous years.
On the day of the events, taking advantage of the fact that the young woman had been left alone in the boat, the prosecutor maintains that the defendant sat behind her, hugging her waist and kissing her on the back of her neck. Despite the victim’s refusal, he continued kissing her and touching her private parts, until he sexually assaulted her.
On July 18, 2020, the defendant was prohibited from leaving the island, as well as from approaching the injured party within 500 metres and communicating with her.
The Prosecutor’s Office considers the facts to constitute a crime of sexual assault, which is why, in addition to the prison sentence, it requests his special disqualification from any profession that involves regular and direct contact with minors for 15 years and the prohibition of approaching the young woman for a period of ten years.
Furthermore, it is important that he compensate the victim in the amount of 31,300 euro.
