The Sumar political group are to propose the creation of an independent body for the prevention of corruption today, as recommended by the Group of States against Corruption (Greco) and as other countries have already implemented, but Spain where countless corruption cases are still ongoing, has not.
The leader of Sumar and second vice president of the Government, Yolanda Díaz, announced this in an interview as a central measure of a “battery of proposals” that her parliamentary group will register to prevent a new ‘Koldo case’ from being repeated.
Díaz, still insisting on calling the conduct of Koldo García, the former advisor of the former Minister of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda José Luis Ábalos, “very serious”, criticised the “and you more” in which, in her opinion, other parties are engaged, and proposed constructive prevention measures instead.
In particular, this body suggested by Greco, the advisory body attached to the Council of Europe, according to Díaz, “has to have an independent character”, and, as she added at the end of the interview, “complete autonomy”, be appointed by the Congress of Deputies but not “supervised by political parties” and have sufficient staff of “officials”.
