The EU Energy Commissioner confirmed that at the end of the winter heating season (March 31), European gas reserves are at more than 58%, the highest level recorded at this time of year, and highlighted that it is a result of diversification of energy supply, efforts to reduce demand and increased investments in renewable energy.

Furthermore, she stressed that markets are increasingly stable, prices have returned to pre-conflict levels and EU countries are prepared to start stocking up for next winter.

Russian gas imports into Europe have decreased from 45% of the total in 2021, to 24% in 2022 and 15% in 2023 and gas demand has reduced by 20%.
