UK Television Highlights

This week’s terrestrial TV features true crime, prestige drama, and returning favourites.

On Monday 21 July, BBC One continues its popular true-crime series Karen Pirie, now in its second season, offering tense investigations and character-driven storytelling. Also this evening, ITV premieres Unforgivable, a powerful, multi-part drama by Jimmy McGovern exploring personal trauma and redemption.

Into the week, BBC Two airs The Narrow Road to the Deep North, an acclaimed war drama rich in emotional resonance. Channel 5 continues its daily entertainment news roundup at 21:35, blending celebrity insights and film coverage.

Streaming Highlights

Netflix serves up The Hunting Wives (Season 1) on Monday 21 July, a gripping thriller about suburban secrets. Also launching are The Steve Harvey Show box set and Trainwreck: P.I. Moms on Tuesday 22 July. Midweek, Wednesday 23 July brings the hard-hitting medical documentary Critical: Between Life and Death along with seasons 1–3 of Hightown and seasons 1–5 of House of Lies. Then on Thursday 24 July, the peak week includes A Normal Woman, Hitmakers, and My Melody & Kuromi.

Amazon Prime Video debuts Justice on Trial on Monday 21 July, a courtroom drama featuring Judge Judy examining controversial cases. On Wednesday 23 July, Shiny Happy People: A Teenage Holy War returns, exploring the Teen Mania evangelical group.

Netflix also launches Happy Gilmore 2 on Friday 25 July, reviving the beloved sports comedy and setting up summer fun.

Pick of the Week

Justice on Trial (Amazon Prime Video, Monday 21 July) is this week’s Pick of the Week. Featuring Judge Judy Sheindlin, this courtroom series dissects real and disputed legal cases with her trademark candour. It combines legal insight with cultural context, making it both informative and compelling viewing.

Spanish Television

On TVE, the new access‑prime show La Garita has launched to much criticism, with viewers finding the humour stale and repetitive. The programme features comedians J.J. Vaquero and Álex Clavero commenting on archival footage from a sofa set—but social media reaction brands it slow-paced and lacking bite.

Antena 3 remains in rerun mode with daytime talk shows and long-running serial dramas, offering familiar summer viewing without major new launches.

Cinema Releases

United Kingdom & Spain

Major cinema releases this week remain on screen but no notable new premieres are scheduled from 21–27 July. The films Superman, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Fantastic Four: The First Steps, Jurassic World: Rebirth, and Smurfs continue to attract audiences in both UK and Spanish multiplexes.

Music and Concerts

New Music Releases

This week brings acclaimed new albums:

  • Above & Beyond release their orchestral project Bigger than All of Us (18 July), bridging electronic and symphonic sounds.
  • Alex G debuts Headlights, offering introspective indie tones.
  • Billie Marten drops Dog Eared, showcasing intimate songwriting.
  • Lord Huron unveils The Cosmic Selector Vol. 1, continuing their signature folk-rock journey.

Concerts Across Europe

The spotlight moves from the stage to memory as Kylie Minogue concludes her Tension Tour European run. She delivered standout performances at Bilbao BBK Live (10–12 July), rocked Santalucía Sevilla Fest on 14 July, and wrapped up in Lisbon on 15 July. Though this week sees no major UK-related artist dates, excitement builds for late July announcements.
