Motorcyclists remain among Spain’s most vulnerable road users, and new requirements from 1 October 2026 strengthen the protection required on motorcycles and mopeds.
Closed footwear becomes mandatory on all roads and protective gloves on interurban roads, while professional riders must use high-visibility clothing.
The law establishes minimum protection, but good practice goes further: appropriate clothing, gloves, proper footwear and other protective equipment can make a significant difference when a rider falls or is involved in a collision.
