A significant new rule from 1 October allows motorcycles to use the right hard shoulder on previously designated and clearly signposted stretches when the normal traffic lanes have stopped because of congestion.
The motorcycle must travel in single file at no more than 30 km/h and must not endanger vehicles that are required to use the hard shoulder.
This is different from ciclomotores, which are already required to use the right hard shoulder where it is passable and sufficient.
For everyone else, the hard shoulder remains primarily a place for emergencies and specific authorised uses.
