In September of this year, we reported difficulties with police vehicles used by Torrevieja´s local police, saying, “this week saw four of their police patrol vehicles disappear from the parking lot in front of the station”, all of which had suffered the expiration of the lease, continuing to explain that Torrevieja “had already lost three vehicles earlier in the year, now totalling a reduction of six patrol cars and the GRO vehicle”, now, this week, the balance has been addressed, with the acquisition of 17 new vehicles.
In a statement from the town hall, they say that the entire fleet has now been renewed, with an investment of 734,368 euro on a four year lease agreement.
Of the 17 new vehicles, 14 are police patrol cars, 5 of them fitted with screens and special protection elements to prevent potential attacks from detainees, as well as 3 vans, 2 of which will be assigned to the GRO task force.
The Mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolón, explained the benefits of the vehicles, all of which have the latest technology, including GPS tracking devices, and are Ford Model C -MAX cars with diesel engines, allowing significant fuel savings and reduced CO2 emissions, thus making the police fleet “more respectful of the local environment”.
