Mother´s day is almost upon us, don´t panic if you think you´ve forgotten; we are now talking about the celebration in Spain. If we or mum lives in a different country, we can take advantage of celebrating more than one of mother´s special days, right?
In Spain, Mother´s Day is celebrated on the first Sunday in May, which is May the 5th in 2013. It´s also the same for Hungary, Lithuania Mozambique and Portugal, in case you wondered.
The vast majority of countries celebrate on the second Sunday in May, which is May the 12th this year. Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Greece, Germany, Iceland, India, Italy, Netherlands, Slovakia and many, many more follow this ruling.
The United Kingdom stands almost alone, sharing only with Ireland and Nigeria, on the fourth Sunday of Lent, March the 10th, 20133, which we have all now missed.
Just for balance though, Norway starts with the first celebratory day of the year, holding their recognition day on the second Sunday in February, whereas Indonesia is the latest, on the 22nd of December.
So, perhaps you are a mum and want to be lavished with gifts all year round, well you could plan a global trip based on where Mother´s day is celebrated.
If you are a child, and let´s face it we all are, then now is the time to think of a special gift that shows mum just how much you care. Not the usual chocolate and flower combo, think of something different, something, new, something special that has taken a little effort to get.

Sure it´s not Mother´s Day until the weekend, but mum will have fun, being cared for, looked after, wined and dined and shown around the castle on a guided tour, when she can choose her own special gift to take away, as a momentum of the special effort and attention you have given to her this year. What a perfect day out and a perfect treat.
