Any chance that Villarreal had of taking one of the two automatic promotion spots in Segunda A have now surely been well and truly dashed as Elche came from behind to take a thrilling 3-2 victory at the Madrigal.
The hosts were on the front foot from the start and they were in front with a `penalty from Perbet in just 8 minutes. Elche looked shell shocked and the home side created chance after chance but failed to add to their tally prior to the half time whistle
Elche looked a little more assured following the restart but they were still on the back foot until intelligent distribution from Manu set Xumetra down the flank. His accurate cross to Carlos Gil saw the forward pull Alche back onto level terms
The Illicitanos then began to play with rather more confidence and from a corner 3 minutes later Generalo met the cross to head Elche into a 2-1 lead.
Villarreal sub Uche levelled the scores on 80 minutes with a shot in a crowded area before that man Angel popped up five minutes from time to secure the points for the visitors.
Bruno was dismissed in the final minutes of the game to reduce the home side to ten but Elche stood firm to maintain their nine point lead at the top over Girona who beat 3rd placed Alcorcon 3-2 earlier in the day.
With 5 games of the season remaining just one more win for Elche will secure their promotion to La Liga which will hopefull come next Friday evening when they entertain FC Barcelona B
