Friday saw the Spanish government explaining the new electricity reforms. One of the principle reasons, according to the Vice President of the Government, Soraya Sáenz de Santamaría, sought to tackle the 26 billion euro tariff deficit, since 2005, without affecting consumers.
In preparation for an obvious increase anticipated by consumer groups, the government did say that without these reforms, they would have to raise the price by a staggering 42%.
In summing up, Vice President said, “This government has stability and political initiative in carrying out a reform that no one has dared to do previously, that has been needed for years. This government has had the courage to take this reform, but it is not easy”.
The conclusion being that the reform that will “not affect consumers”, will mean yet another rise to an already struggling population, with an additional 3.2%, on top of the 1% already added on the 1st of July, with the average bill now increasing by almost 4 euro per month.
