Boat Fishing.
‘Pugwash Pete’ went out fishing with David, Mark, Dominic and Matt.
He had a great day’s fishing with these lads and they didn’t stop catching all day with loads of red snappers and mackerel.
After they moved and used larger baits David was rewarded with a nice stingray. The lads wouldn’t handle this one so we get to see a rare photo of Pete. Mark then had a rest and put his rod down and looked away and he was into a nice sunfish. They caught a lot more fish on the day especially mackerel.
See photos of Pete with the stingray and David and his sunfish.
The boys up Javier way are still catching a few tuna and see what one of them caught, a John Dory, they are on my ‘Wanna catch list’
No tuna have been seen down our way yet.
See photos.
Shore Fishing.
The ‘Albox Fishing Club’ had an evening fishing off the rocks by the Repsol garage in Garrucha.
Three new members joined ‘Dizzy John’, ‘Tony Always Laughing’, ‘Take your Time Tony’, ‘West Country Dave’, Graham, ‘Rock Steady Eddy’ and ‘Squiddly Sid’.
The sea was good with a slight breeze. Tony A L caught 6 fish, all bogues; Graham had one small octopus and John one small striped bream. Eddie had a weaver and a rockfish of some sort. The rest of them caught nada, nuffink! There were plenty of small fish inshore pinching the baits which were prawn and worm.
‘London Bill’ again fished Macenas rocks and continued spinning small silver lures to attract, palomete, Atlantic scad and mackerel.
‘Stormin David, caught a plate sized banded bream for his tea, he fished near the Repsol garage in Garrucha.
Have a look at this video is of the local Mojacar Dive Group, weird we rarely bring any sea grass up when fishing so wonder where this mark is.

Coarse Fishing.
Keith Garlick (Shall we nickname him ‘Ajo Keith’?) He tells me only two of the ‘Grumpy Old Men of Los Gallardos’ went to Puentes, Lorca. Water is still high and the tracks over to the pump house swims are under water so it was back to their usual swims. Bad day for Keith as he only four carp with ‘40 Watts’ catching 21. This was their last trip out until September when it should be cooler.
‘Baza Barry’ fished Lake Negratin and had a good bag full with one carp weighing 8lbs, a good fish for that lake but it’s not because there aren’t big brutes in there they just don’t get caught. I think the big ones are cannibals and that’s why.
Last week’s ‘Rods and reels’ competition venue was the Embalse de Argos in Murcia. The water level is slowly going down making some of the swims near the point very difficult to get to. The fishing is still patchy with several good double figure weights but some anglers struggling to get into double figures. The wind was quite strong on the sunny side of the point causing anglers problems with bait presentation. Again this week, plenty of anglers complaining about lost fish, which is not helping the cause to fill their nets.
Top Rods on the day
1st Doug (Welsh Goldminer) Hornblow fishing the feeder using pellet with 94.1/4lbs.
2nd Dave (Yours Truly) Hoare fishing the feeder using pellet and with 64lbs.
3rd Terry (Swing E´m) Screen fishing the pole using paste with 56.1/4lbs.
‘Abbey angling’ fished Lake Blanca, once again they returned to this notoriously difficult water, although this time it did produce a little better and out of the fourteen anglers there was just five who dry netted.
Some anglers began the match by fishing for bleak, just for the first couple of hours normally taking approx two hundred bleak for 2 to 3kgs, this coupled with two or three barbel or carp which normally makes up the winning weights, but not this time.
1st Clive (No more golf) Cleghorn with 34.1/4lbs fishing up in the water on the monkey using hemp
2nd Dave (Yours Truly) Hoare with 25.3/4lbs fishing Bleak on the whip and the feeder using corn
3rd Neil (The Boy) McBirnie with 18.1/2lbs fishing the feeder using banded pellet
All details are available on their website www.abbeyangling.com or from the Match Secretary Terry Screen on 965328368
The Albox fishing club meets every two weeks or so at Bar Wassy. For details of the next meeting tel Sid 634 313 650.
Latest license information.
There is a new loophole for those without a nie number who want an Andalucian beach and/or boat fishing license. It will mean a trip in person to Almeria with a friend who has a nie number and has a 50/50 chance of working! The other loophole for fishing the beaches and boats in Andalucia without an NIE document is to make a trip to Murcia.
Or the new UK sea fishing license should suffice BUT although we have been told this can be used here I have not seen a copy of this rule on paper and so it could be a problem if pulled up by the police who probably don’t know about the rule.
There is now a loophole for those wanting coarse fishing licenses for Andalucia who don’t have NIE documents or/and don’t want to do the 24 hour course in Spanish, see me for more details. There is talk of an agreement between all regions for any license to be used elsewhere, watch this space.
I’m pleased to report the Beachcomber’s three web cams are working again and the other good news is they work on both 32 and 64 bit systems and on any browser so checkout Mojacar’s weather and Mediterranean Sea conditions here. www.beachcombermojacar.com/beachcomber-webcam/
For up to date information on any of the above see John at the Beachcomber Bar Restaurant on Mojacar Playa or tel 950 473 099. In case of difficulty reaching me (Probably out fishing) ask staff for my mobile number. You can also contact me on Facebook @ ‘John Beachcomber Mojacar’.
Tight lines, Beachcomber John.
