The participants in the weekly craft market in Jávea have decided to contiue after Easter. From the beginning of January they built up their stalls in the square in fornt of the Post Office (Plaza Marina Alta) and although the amount of visitors has not been fantastic, it is quite clear that the fair is beginning to get a good name.
More and more people come looking for something special, or just to enjoy the lively atmosphere, have a little something on one of the many terraces around the fair and visit the Old Town.
The old part of Jávea is in itself worth a visit. To quote the web site http://www.xabia.org/: ". . . we recommend a visit to the Church, Iglesia de San Bartolomé, from the 14th to 16th century, a splendid example of the Isabelline Gothic style; as well as the "Soler Blasco" Archaeological and Ethnographic Museum, the former Antonio Banyuls Palace, which allows you to explore the town’s past.
You cannot leave without buying our great local products in the Abastos Market . . . or take advantage of the numerous Tapas Bars which you will find in your route."
And now the craft fair offers you another good reason to go to Jávea. Every Saturday morning between 10 and 15 craftsmen and women set up their stalls in the square in front of the Post Office near the old Town Centre (Plaza Marina Alta), to sell their pottery and ceramics, their lamps made of recycled wood or twisted wire, their wooden toys or hand painted T-shirts and bags, or their own designs in jewelry.
Every stall offers something different, all original items that you won’t find anywhere else. And this Saturday (14 March) Tony will explain and show you how to make traditional "turrón" (nougat), just using almonds, suger, cinnamon and lemón rind.
