This coming Saturday the people that have set up their craft stalls every Saturday morning for the last five months in front of the Post Office (Correos) in Jávea will take a break till the autumn. In fact, most of the participants will set up their stalls in the summer market on the sea front of Jávea Port.
The craft people setting up in front of Correos feel fairly sure that the weekly fair will work in the coming years. There were not that many visitors during the first five months, but the ones that did come, came specifically to look for the genuine craft work that is the speciality of all Amata markets.
Many came to order something special, which sometimes could be made on the spot, at other times could be collected one or two weeks later. The little market begins to be a known meeting point for people who are looking for individually made items and the artesans who make them.
In the summer this meeting point will be in the port of Jávea, on the sea front at the end of the Avenida Jaime I. This will be the third year that Amata will be running their craft fair (Artesanía de Autor) in the Puerto; every evening from 7 o`clock onwards some twenty stalls will be set up with a variety of crafts: jewelry, designer clothing, toys, decorative lamps, sculptures, leather bags and belts, paintings and caricatures. The fair runs from 19 June till 13 September.
So this Saturday, 30 May, the craft stalls will be for the last time on the Plaza Marina Alta (from 10am till 2 pm) and then, from 19 June you can see most of them in the Puerto every evening. More information about both fairs on www.amata.es or 639 979 678 (English spoken)
