Seven out of ten teenagers who have played on an online gambling platform could continue to play to the extent that it becomes habitual.
The worrying claim has been made by the Miguel Hernández University (UMH) of Elche on behalf of the Provincial Council of Alicante, which surveyed 2,437 young people.
It is the first time such a survey has been conducted in this pioneering field in Spain because it proposes, after diagnosis, intervention through a rigorous methodological approach.
The data reveals that 70% of young people who have played for the first time would continue with this habit, and suffer problematic consequences derived from it.
The report notes that to reduce risk factors, young people should have real perception of the negative consequences that these habits can bring, and society must help with parental attitude towards this situation being strong. To these elements binds the media pressure that has a key and important harmful or positive role through powerful advertising campaigns.
