Queen Letizia will travel to Colombia between June 12 and 14 to make her eighth cooperation trip since 2015.
As reported by the Government, the Queen will learn about the work that the Spanish Cooperation develops in Colombia in the areas of poverty eradication, gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, employment and decent work, especially in the field of youth, and the construction of peace, fight against all forms of violence and access to justice for all people. Doña Letizia will travel accompanied by the Secretary of State for International Cooperation, Pilar Cancela Rodríguez.
This is the eighth Cooperation trip made by the Queen, who has recovered a custom started by Queen Sofía in 1997. Previously, Doña Letizia travelled to Honduras and El Salvador (2015), Senegal (2017), the Dominican Republic and Haiti (2018), Mozambique (2019), again Honduras (2020), Paraguay (late 2021) and Mauritania (May 2022).
The objective of these visits is to support Spanish Cooperation, learn first-hand about the work carried out by the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation and Development (AECID) and Spanish non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in different countries and verify the effectiveness of projects financed by Spain and their direct impact on the beneficiaries.
