The Plenary of the Sectoral Conference on the National Plan on Drugs has unanimously approved the territorial distribution of more than 9.5 million euro destined to finance the development of drug prevention policies and attention to other addictions by the communities and autonomous cities (with the exception of Navarra and the Basque Country) in the current financial year 2023. In addition, it has been reported that an upcoming distribution of 8.5 million euro will be made from confiscations through bilateral agreements with all the territories.
The amounts approved will be allocated to the development of the National Strategy on Drugs in the regional programs derived from the National Plan on Drugs (3,270,160 euro), to drug addiction prevention programs within the Framework of the National Strategy on Drugs (3,962,630 euro), the development of the Spanish Observatory on Drugs (1,033,290 euro) and rehabilitation and reintegration plans for drug addicts with legal-criminal problems (1,253,320 euro).
The Minister of Health, José Miñones, has signified the unity of action between administrations that characterises the approach to addictions in Spain, which guarantees society as a whole that it is carried out “with rigor and the maximum guarantees”.
In this sense, he thanked all the public administrations involved, as well as the Third Sector and scientific societies for the paradigm of consensus and will that they represent in a matter “with an indisputable health, social and citizen security impact”, such as the of addictions.
The credits, provided through the Government Delegation for the National Plan on Drugs, come from the General State Budget, have a prior favourable report from the Ministry of Finance on compliance with the objectives of budgetary stability and financial sustainability and were approved by the Sector Commission held on May 10.
The biggest beneficiaries will be Andalucía, Madrid and Catalonia, each with a total allocation of more than 1.4 million euro. Excluding Melilla and Ceuta, who get around 60,000 each, at the lower end of the scale are La Rioja, Cantabria, and the Balearics.
