A warning has been issued over the use of alcohol-based remedies to combat the summer heat, such as using rosemary alcohol, for example, also useful against muscle and joint pain, but also against discomfort caused by air, cold or humidity, as despite the beneficial properties, it has some extremely dangerous ones, such as its flammability.
The warning came about after a tragedy in the Alicante municipality of Yecla at the end of last week, when a 71-year-old woman reportedly decided to soak different parts of her body with alcohol to combat the high temperatures. However, shortly after freshening up, she made the fatal decision to smoke. The flames, upon coming into contact with her skin, set her on fire, causing her death.
The fire caused very serious burns, and she had to be taken immediately to the Virgen de la Arrixaca University Clinical Hospital in Murcia, where she was admitted to the Burns Unit.
Unfortunately, the injuries were so severe they resulted in her death. The body was transferred from the hospital to the facilities of the Institute of Legal Medicine, where an autopsy will confirm the cause of death.
