A team of Guardia Civil officers dedicated to seeking out fugitives arrested three people in different operations in the provinces of Madrid, Barcelona and Gran Canaria, claimed by the United States authorities after having committed sexual crimes against minors.
The first of them, 71 years old, according to the US authorities, was part of a criminal network dedicated to the exchange of multimedia files with sexual content of minors. In 2010, the FBI detected an IP address used by this criminal network, which was found to be located in the vicinity of Miami, allowing the now detainee to be identified as a user of it, as a subscriber to that IP.
After searching his home, the FBI located a large number of multimedia files with paedophile content on his computer, proceeding to arrest him, the detainee stating at the time that he had downloaded them “for investigative purposes.”
Once presented before the judge, he was released and when the date arrived he did not appear for trial. It was learned that he had fled to Honduras, where he obtained Honduran nationality to avoid his extradition. However, after learning that he had recently travelled to Spain, the FBI contacted the UCO of the Guardia Civil, whose investigators located and arrested the fugitive in the town of Getafe (Madrid), where he apparently led a life normal.
The second of them, 23 years old, is accused of threatening and coercing a minor through a well-known messaging platform for gamers, for the recording of pornographic material, which the detainee later came to market. The events occurred on several occasions, between October 2022 and January 2023, in Kalamazoo County (Michigan) in the United States.
To locate this person, the FBI contacted the UCO of the Guardia Civil, who was able to determine that the fugitive was studying a master’s degree in Quantum Science and Technology at the University of Barcelona, information that facilitated his location and arrest.
The third of them, aged 55, sexually assaulted his 12-year-old stepdaughter in 2014, with whom he lived together with her mother and siblings and, as a result of this sexual assault, the minor became pregnant. When the victim gave birth, DNA tests determined that the assailant was his stepfather and, when trying to arrest him, it was found that he had fled the US to Spain.
The UCO investigators, in collaboration with the FBI, were able to find out that he had travelled to Barcelona and that he had later moved to the town of Benidorm (Alicante), where he settled for several months. Subsequently, the Guardia Civil verified that he had embarked for the island of Gran Canaria, being located in Vecindario, where he was finally arrested by UCO agents.
The investigations have been carried out by the Fleeing from Justice Team of the Central Operative Unit (UCO) of the Guardia Civil, in collaboration with the US authorities.
