The World Health Organisation (WHO) confirmed that during the month of August more than 1.4 million new cases of COVID-19 have been reported globally, which represents an increase of 38% compared to the July data.
In addition, despite many people wanting to believe that Covid has gone away, an additional 1,800 people were killed by Covid in the month, almost 60 people every day.
Regarding death figures, the regions of the Eastern Mediterranean and Western Pacific reported an increase in the period described.
Regarding the accumulated total, as of August 27, more than 770 million confirmed cases and more than 6.9 million deaths have been reported worldwide.
Despite the WHO urging countries to maintain surveillance and reporting of Covid data, many countries no longer publish the information, which includes Spain.
Regarding the vaccination process at the international level, the UN criticised resistance on the part of developed countries to assign intellectual property rights to the different vaccines against COVID-19, which could be considered a violation of the non-discrimination guarantees provided by international law.
According to the latest WHO data, only 32% of the world’s population has received at least one booster dose and in countries like Gabon, Burundi or Madagascar that figure only reaches 1%.
