French air traffic controllers have called off their strike planned for Friday, which would have resulted in widespread disruption, not only in France, but across the continent.
Normally, under these circumstances, flights are rerouted to avoid French airspace, which often makes the flight time longer. As aircraft have little time to recover between stops, that in turn leads to a knock-on effect that sees delays increase as the day progresses.
Flights between the UK and Spain would have been amongst those affected by the disruption, as they will be subject to longer routing times.
A last-minute agreement was reached on Wednesday evening, and so the strike is now called off, with controllers also agreeing not to call any more strikes until at least later in 2024.
