Although rain is amongst us in some parts of the country, it will not be enough to readdress the balance of the current shortfall.
The national average value of accumulated rainfall from the beginning of the hydrological year (October 1, 2022) to September 12, 2023, is estimated at 533 l/m 2, which represents around 12% less than the normal value corresponding to said period (609 l/m 2), according to the latest weekly data from the State Meteorological Agency, AEMET.
The accumulated quantities are below their normal values in much of the Peninsula, except in Castilla y León, northern Extremadura, parts of Castilla La Mancha and Aragón, and the Canary Islands.
The percentage of precipitation is below 75% compared to the normal value in points of the northeast and southwest quadrants of the peninsula, isolated areas of the Cantabrian coast and most of the Canary Islands, mainly the eastern ones.
