The Provincial Court of A Coruña will hear evidence from today, Tuesday, against the four members of an organised gang dedicated to robbing schools and institutes in different parts of Spain.
Specifically, the accused – with other cases open at the national level – are being tried on this occasion for a robbery that occurred in October 2016 at the IES Alfredo Brañas de Carballo and for an attempted robbery that occurred in November of that same year at the Lugrís Urban Institute in Malpica.
According to the prosecutor’s document, the four defendants, one of them with a history of robbery, “were dedicating themselves in a stable and organised manner” to committing robberies in different parts of Spain, “attacking the facilities of public schools and institutes.”
In the case of Galicia, two of the four accused entered the IES Alfredo Brañas de Carballo on October 23, 2016, a Sunday, after breaking the alarm and one of the patio access doors. Once inside, they broke doors in different rooms and forced drawers to take an amount of 1,570 euro, in addition to causing damage worth 2,354.70 euro.
On November 12, a Saturday, the four defendants, according to the Prosecutor’s Office, broke the alarm at the Lugrís Urban Institute in Malpica and entered its interior after breaking the lock on the main door. Although they also tore out the window of the concierge, they did not take anything inside. In this case, the damages amount to 3,923 euro.
The Public Ministry considers the four perpetrators of a crime of attempted robbery with force, for the second act, and two of them guilty of a crime of robbery with force, for the first. He asks that they be sentenced to sentences ranging from seven and a half to a year and a half in prison.
