The Courts in Valencia will begin to hear evidence from today against a man accused of setting fire to his 28-year-old niece, with the intention of burning her alive.
The events occurred on January 27 in the Valencia home shared by the defendant and the victim when, “during an argument, the man sprayed the woman’s clothes with alcohol and set her on fire with a lighter.”
As a result of the attack, the niece suffered a third-degree burn on 3% of her body, which affected her neck and chest, according to the Superior Court of Justice of the Valencian Community.
According to the sources, it took the woman 500 days to heal from her wounds and in addition to the first assistance in the emergency room, she underwent several operations to perform skin grafts.
The public prosecution initially requests a prison sentence of 11 years for the defendant for a crime of injuries.
