In a year marked by the renewal of two of its key models, the Corsa and Astra, Opel concluded 2023 with a growth in its sales to almost 35,0000 registered units of passenger cars and commercial vehicles in Spain, which translates into a 3.6% market share.
With 14,955 registrations, the new Opel Corsa, manufactured exclusively at the Stellantis Group plant in Figueruelas (Zaragoza), has been the brand’s best-selling model in 2023, remaining one of the great references in the B segment in Spain. Also produced in the Aragonese factory, the Opel Crossland classified in the B-SUV category added a total of 3,390 registrations. Together, both models represent two out of every three Opel passenger car registrations in the country.
The new Opel Astra reinforces the presence of the German firm in the strategic C segment. In its first full year of marketing, the compact Blitz achieved 2,556 registered units, more than double what the previous generation of this model achieved in the year 2022.
Regarding commercial vehicles, Opel achieves 6,866 registrations in 2023 and 4.7% penetration, with a modern range, which is also manufactured in Spain, such as the Opel Combo model at the Vigo plant. In addition, the lightning brand offers electrical alternatives in all its models and is perfectly adapted to the needs of companies and professionals.
With 3,097 registrations, electrified vehicles already represent 9% of the brand’s sales. With the arrival of the new Opel Astra, which has two PHEV versions of 180 HP and 225 HP, respectively, and adds to the offer of the Opel Grandland PHEV the Blitz has practically doubled its sales of plug-in hybrid passenger cars in 2023, with 1,217 units. Opel commercial vehicles, with 559 registrations, achieve a market share of 5.9%.
Electrification and consistency in fulfilling the Opel strategy will continue this year, when attention will focus on three important milestones. In 2024, Opel will celebrate 125 years of car manufacturing and offer at least one battery-electric model in every car line, including the successor Crossland and the new Grandland. In this way, Opel continues to consistently promote the shift towards electromobility.
The new Grandland will be built at the Eisenach plant in Thuringia, in which Stellantis is investing more than 130 million euro for this purpose.
