Orihuela Awards Meals-on-Wheels Contract
Orihuela Council has awarded the contract for the Menjar a Casa service, what we could call meals-on-wheels, to the company Eurest Colectividades to provide home delivery to elderly people who cannot go out to shop or have difficulties cooking.
The company awarded to contract is already providing the service, and that paralysed the previous tender due to a complaint after detecting alleged irregularities in the specifications. Thus, the company will continue to provide the service in the town for 156,898 euro for a period of two years, extendable for one more, so the value of the contract amounts to 214,094 euro.
This service aims to offer healthy menus at a price of 8 euro, of which the City Council pays 60% and the user pays the rest. There are different diets that will be prescribed by the doctor, such as basal or normal diet, healthy diet, diabetic diet, easy chewing diet.
The service is aimed at people over 65 years of age, who request the service from the Social Services of the Orihuela Council.
According to the contract specifications, lunches will be delivered daily to users’ homes from Monday to Friday (excluding national and regional holidays) during the period in which they are registered for the service. Presumably, those in need do not need to eat on weekends or holidays. The contractor must include both the information related to the dishes, through technical preparation sheets and dietary sheets, as well as a detailed description of each of the diets through a diet code specifying the name, indications, objectives and characteristics of the dishes themselves. The dish preparation sheet must collect information related to how to prepare, distribute and serve a dish.
