The airline Binter paid tribute to the Guardia Civil by naming one of its aircraft, model ATR 72-600, after the security force.
The event, which took place in the Binter Technic hangar at Gran Canaria Airport, was attended by the president of the airline, Rodolfo Núñez, and the brigadier general, head of the Guardia Civil zone in the Canary Islands, Juan Hernández Mosquera. They were accompanied by the Government delegate in the Canary Islands, Anselmo Pestana; the deputy minister of Infrastructure of the Government of the Canary Islands, Francisco Gonzalez; the regional director of Enaire, Javier Delgado; and the director of Gran Canaria Airport, Julio Peñalver.
Rodolfo Núñez stressed that the naming of a company aircraft with the name of Guardia Civil is a tribute that both the company and the employees pay to the role and work that the Benemérita carries out every day in the Archipelago and throughout the national territory. “We should feel proud to have a security force like the Guardia Civil, which looks after the well-being of all citizens every day and which, in addition, carries out humanitarian and collaborative work in other countries when required by the trust, preparation and professionalism of each and every one of its members,” he said.
The President also recalled the fundamental role played by the Guardia Civil in the proper functioning of Spanish airports and their security.
For his part, General Hernández Mosquera thanked Binter for recognising the Guardia Civil by naming one of its aircraft after it, emphasising the immense pride that the Institution feels and the valuable display of affection that this implies and which reinforces the excellent relationship that has always existed between the two, highlighting the humane and close treatment that the company has always shown to all Guardia Civils.
The General added that both institutions are currently working on a project to strengthen the flight safety of Binter aircraft, as is done with other national and international companies. He pointed out that in the Canary Islands, the Guardia Civil currently has more than 300 personnel in Fiscal and Border Sections or Detachments located in 8 Canary Islands airports, complemented by the work of the more than 50 territorial units that the Corps has in the Canary Islands, thus guaranteeing responsibilities such as fiscal protection, or surveillance and security, and offering the peace of mind that the air transport system needs to operate.
During the event, the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure of the Canary Islands Government, Francisco Javier González Díaz, also described Binter as a “brave, leading company, which with its Canarian way has accustomed us to great details like this, in recognition of the great involvement of the Guardia Civil in our society.”
