The Ministry of Defence has begun the multimodal transport of 10 ‘Leopard’ 2A4 tanks to Ukraine, after completing an exhaustive repair, fine-tuning and readiness process at the Santa Bárbara factory in Alcalá de Guadaira (Seville), and having passed the corresponding tests to verify their full operability.
The first phase of transport, from Seville to Ferrol, was carried out by land last week. Once loaded onto a Ro-Ro vessel for the second phase of transport, by sea, the ship left Ferrol at midday on Saturday 13 July.
The ship is expected to arrive in a Polish port before next weekend. Once in Poland, it will begin its protected land transport to the point of delivery to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. They will be responsible for the final phase of movement through Ukraine until it is made available to operational units of the Ukrainian Army. At all stages of this important movement, extreme security measures are being taken.
With this new shipment of 2A4 ‘Leopard’ tanks, Spain has donated a total of 20 of these tanks to Ukraine. A new set is planned to be donated during the second half of 2024.
