Trips from the tourism program of the Institute for the Elderly and Social Services (Imserso) for the 2024/2025 season have started to become available, specifically in Andalusia, Aragon, Cantabria, Castile and Leon, the Valencian Community, Extremadura, Madrid and Murcia, and in the autonomous city of Melilla.
In these communities, pensioners with accreditation in this program will be able to start making their reservations for trips immediately, while in the rest of the territories they will be able to do so from Wednesday. That is, in Asturias, Castilla La Mancha, Catalonia, Galicia, the Balearic Islands, the Canary Islands, La Rioja, Navarra and the Basque Country, and in the autonomous city of Ceuta.
In total, this year the Imserso offers 886,269 places, of which:
50.1% (443,887 places) are destined for tourism on the peninsular coast.
25.9% (230,039 places) are intended for island coastal tourism.
23.9% (212,343) are destined for short-haul tourism, which includes cultural tours, nature tourism, provincial capitals, and autonomous cities of Ceuta and Melilla and of European origin.
Each province has been assigned a number of available trips to each of the destinations in proportion to the number of senior citizens registered. During the first days of sales (from September 23 to 27), applicants can only book the trips that are already available in their province, so that sales are staggered to avoid a possible overload of the travel reservation centre and thus ensure its correct operation. Subsequently, from September 28, the possibility of booking trips that have not been sold in any province will open up.
For this season, the Imserso, which is part of the Ministry of Social Rights, Consumption and Agenda 2030, has sent a total of 2,853,985 accreditation letters to the beneficiaries of this program, so that the people who have been accredited to participate in the trips have been receiving these letters in which it is indicated from which day of the month of September they can reserve their trips, and the modalities they have to do so. These reservations can be made through the website www.turismosocial.com, entering the DNI and the accreditation code (included in the letter), or at any of the authorised travel agencies, presenting the DNI.
The Imserso informs that there is a preferential accreditation that allows the user to access the reservation of a trip on the first day of commercialization in each territory, while the rest of the users will be able to do so from the following day. It is also reported that the preferential accreditation is offered by a ranking of the applications, so that the highest scores are obtained according to the criteria established in the order regulating the program and the call for applications.
For its part, the Ministry of Social Rights highlights that this tourism program contributes to active aging and the promotion of an active life, while promoting intergenerational solidarity, generating employment and economic activity, and promoting interterritorial solidarity through travel between different autonomous communities. The Imserso also points out that this program has a high acceptance among pensioners throughout Spain, based on the survey carried out by this institute in 2023 and which indicated that 90.8% of users consider this program to be “very good” or “good”, as well as that 66.1% of pensioners stated that they repeat the trips year after year.
