Spain’s national women’s football team will take to the field in Bern tonight aiming to complete a flawless group stage in the UEFA Women’s Euro 2025, following emphatic victories over Portugal and Belgium.
Under the guidance of manager Montse Tomé, the Spanish side has delivered two commanding performances so far — a 5–0 rout of Portugal and a 6–2 dismantling of Belgium — putting them at the top of Group A with a guaranteed place in the quarter-finals.
But the stakes remain high as Spain prepares to face Italy at 21:00 CET. A win would see Spain finish the group stage with three victories from three — a historic first for the national women’s side in European Championship play.
Tomé has hinted at some rotation in the starting line-up, particularly in defence, as several players are carrying yellow cards and risk suspension ahead of the knockout rounds. Nonetheless, the coach is expected to field a strong eleven, keen to maintain momentum and sharpen tactical execution before the higher-stakes fixtures ahead.
The team has attracted considerable attention for its fluid attacking style and clinical finishing, with forward Esther González and midfielder Aitana Bonmatí among the standout performers of the tournament so far. Spain’s dominance in possession and midfield control has drawn comparisons to the men’s team during its golden era.
Italy, meanwhile, are still in contention to qualify, having drawn with Belgium and narrowly lost to Portugal. They will need at least a point tonight and a favourable result in the other match to keep their hopes alive.
The match is being held at Stade de Suisse in Bern, Switzerland, and is expected to draw a strong crowd, with Spanish fans travelling in growing numbers after the team’s early success.
Spain will face either the runners-up of Group B or Group C in the quarter-finals, depending on tonight’s result and final group standings.
