The draw has now been made for this year’s Spanish National Lawn Bowls Championships, and with record entries this year we are having to use 6 greens, namely, Greenlands, opening ceremony, Vistabella, San Luis, El Rancho, La Siesta and Quesada, finals and closing ceremony.
One of the first noticeable aspects are the amount of ties involving players from the same club, however, as one of the 6 people involved in the draw I can assure one and all it could not have been done any fairer, and the majority of ties between players from the same club, generally involve the clubs with the higher Federation members.
The draw has produced some very interesting and exciting game, and over the next 4 weeks I shall try and analyse the various disciplines, starting with the singles, a summary of which is detailed below.
MEN’S SINGLES :
Last year’s winner Russell Marks has been drawn against Del Gorsuch, but the tie of the Prelims is undoubtedly Pete Bonsor against Keith Jones, sure to attract a good gallery.
The all Edinburgh clash of Jackie Breslin and Stuart Denholm also looks very interesting as does the games between Tony McKenna / Paul Truncheon and Paul Brown/Graham Cathcart 2 current Internationals.
LADIES SINGLES :
June Jones, last year’s winner, is paired against Bernice Evans in the first round, other ties which catch the eye are Peta Rhodes / Carol Rudge 2 recognised specialist leads and 2 all Greenland games Jenny Bowman / Lynn Greenland and Jan Pocock / Sandra Heath
