Seat Belts: The Simplest Safety Rule Is Still the Most Important

A seat belt works in the moments when everything else has gone wrong. It keeps occupants in the correct position, reduces the risk of being thrown from the vehicle and helps other safety systems such as airbags work as intended.

From 1 October, Spain removes several long-standing exemptions, meaning taxi drivers, goods-vehicle drivers and driving instructors must wear their seat belts.

The wider message is simple: being familiar with a vehicle, making a short journey or driving professionally does not make a seat belt less necessary.
