Officers from the National Police have arrested a 72 year old British citizen, a resident of the coastal town of Cartagena, as the alleged perpetrator of a crime of possessing and distributing child pornography.
This arrest is part of Operation “Spade”, an extensive and international police operation in the fight against child pornography, which began in Canada and in which the Computer Crimes Unit of the Murcia regional Police have been taking part.
In December last year, the main operational time of “Spade”, some 28 people were arrested in Spain, including a school teacher, and a variety of computer equipment was seized.
As a result of the ongoing investigation, officers proceeded to search the home of this latest suspect, on a campsite in Cartagena, where they found and seized around 5,000 indecent images of children.
In Canada, one of the most widely publicised arrests was that of a 54 year old preschool teacher, who pleaded guilty to producing child pornography and filming his sexual abuse of several five year old students whilst teaching in Japan. The man pleaded guilty to two counts of production of child pornography, which carry a mandatory minimum penalty of ten years and a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison, for each count in Canada.
