Saturday the 15th of June marks the start of another major traffic operation on Spanish roads, as “Operación Paso del Estrecho 2013”, with around 2 million people looking set to head south across the Iberia peninsular, ready to embark on their annual crossing between Spain and Morocco.
Last year saw considerable delays to travelers, which are not set to be repeated this year, as a comprehensive traffic management plan has been put together.
Luis Aguilera, who was accompanied by the Director General of Civil Protection and Emergency, Juan Diaz Cruz, and the government delegate in Melilla, Abdelmalik El Barkani, all visited the area this week to check that preparations had been carried out completely, with the City of Melilla likely to be the hub of activity as residents and visitors alike travel to the north African areas.
