About 7,000 people enjoyed the 21st Night of Habanera in Playa del Cura last Friday where they were entertained for just over two hours by seven local choirs.
They included el coro Juvenil Francisco Vallejos, la Coral Nueva Generación, which was participating for the first time, la Coral El Nuevo Amanecer de Torrelamata, la Coral Bella Torrevieja, el Coro “Cecilio Gallego” de la Asociación Amas de Casa, así como el grupo “Potalaspuntosemos” and la agrupación Brea y Sal.
They provided an extraordinary show with many well-known Havana, to which the large audience thoroughly enjoyed singing along. The show served as a prologue to the 59th International Contest of Habanera and Polyphony, which will be held from Monday 22 July at the Eras de la Sal
Of the entire program, the one habanera that was especially significant was the interpretation of the popular "La Bella Lola" by Brea and Sal, as thousands of people waved their handkerchiefs in a gesture that has now become traditional.
For the second year in a row the stage was set up on the edge of the promenade, overlooking the sea, with the audience seated on the warm sand.
Organising Committee vice president, Councillor Luis Maria Pizana, said the whole program was "torrevejense flavoured" and it’s growing popularity was amply demonstrated by the ever increasing number in attendance.
The evening ended with all of the participating choirs joining together to sing the Sea Shanty "Swallow of Love", which began with the start of the countdown to the beginning of the Great Contest of Habanera.
